The people and the engine behind GTO Gecko

One independent developer, one solver library, four platforms. Here is who makes GTO Gecko, what it actually does, and how the content on this site gets written.

Who builds it

GTO Gecko is made by Peka Software, an independent software studio founded by Petter Karstad in Norway. There is no large team and no outside investors — the solver, the trainers, the mobile apps, and the web app are designed, built, and maintained by one developer who answers his own support email.

That independence shapes the product. Features ship because players ask for them, and pricing stays where a serious hobbyist can afford it. The app runs on the web, iOS, Android, and macOS, with one subscription covering every platform.

What GTO Gecko does

At its core, GTO Gecko is a presolved library paired with tools that teach you to use it. The library covers cash games (including straddle and ante configurations), MTTs with ICM-aware ranges, and Spin & Go formats — with true 3-way multiway solutions, not just heads-up postflop. When a spot falls outside the library, an on-device solver computes it locally instead of sending your hand to a server queue.

On top of the library sit three adaptive trainers — preflop, postflop, and full-hand — each with an ELO rating that adjusts difficulty to your level and keeps drilling the spots you miss. And because knowing the correct play is not the same as understanding it, a SHAP-based machine-learning explainability engine breaks down why the solver bets, checks, or folds — in plain English, for every decision.

How the blog is written

Strategy articles on this site follow a few fixed rules:

  • Solver outputs come from our own library. Ranges, frequencies, and EV numbers quoted in articles are pulled from GTO Gecko solves, so you can open the app and verify them yourself.
  • Comparison pricing is verified. When we compare tools, prices are checked against the vendors' published pricing at the time of writing.
  • Reviews are honest. Competing tools get credit where they earn it; we state plainly where GTO Gecko is the weaker option.
  • Updates are dated. When an article is revised, the update date is shown so you know how fresh the information is.
