Delete Your Data
River
How Accounts Work in River
River creates a pseudonymous Firebase learner identifier when you first open the App. In River 1.2.2 and later, you may optionally link it using Google or Apple sign-in to synchronize progress across devices. Earlier versions may offer only the anonymous learner identity.
To delete a linked account in River 1.2.2 or later, open Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. You may be asked to sign in again. This removes the Firebase account, synchronized progress, and leaderboard entry. It does not cancel your store subscription or automatically remove local progress and separate support records.
You can request account and server-data deletion without access to the App by emailing us using the instructions below.
Data We May Hold
Depending on your usage, the following data may exist on our servers:
- Pseudonymous learner identity (Firebase Authentication) — an identifier used to authenticate requests and restore subscription access, and the name, email, and provider identifier associated with an optionally linked account.
- Synchronized progress and profile — learning progress and profile settings for linked accounts; an optional leaderboard entry with display name, preset avatar, and score.
- Otto quota record (Firestore) — usage counts, timestamps, and cached subscription status for River's AI coach.
- Submitted reports — if you tapped Report on an Otto answer: the reported answer, your reason, any details you added, and your pseudonymous identifier.
- Bug and feature reports — messages you submit, optional contact email, app context, and basic device information stored in our GitHub issue tracker.
- Purchase and entitlement records — subscription status held by us and by Google Play, Apple, and RevenueCat.
- Crash and diagnostic reports (Firebase Crashlytics) — device model, OS version, app version, and stack traces.
- Request metadata (Cloud logging) — retained for 30 days.
Deleting Local Data
Lesson progress, streaks, preferences, and display settings are stored on your device. To delete them:
- Android: Settings > Apps > River > Storage > Clear Data, or uninstall the App.
- iOS: Delete the App from your device. All local data is removed automatically.
Uninstalling the App removes local data but does not by itself delete the server-side records listed above.
Request Server Data Deletion
To request deletion of the server-side data we hold, email us:
- Email: info@gtogecko.com
Please include:
- Subject line: "Data Deletion Request - River"
- Your linked account email, if applicable, and your device model and operating system version (helps us locate the relevant records). Never send your password.
- If you purchased a subscription: the store you purchased through, and the order or transaction identifier if you have it
We will process your request within 30 days and confirm deletion by email.
What Is Deleted, and What Is Kept
- Deleted: your Firebase identity and linked account details, synchronized progress, leaderboard entry, the Otto quota record, any reports you submitted, and diagnostic records we control that are associated with your identifiers.
- Kept: purchase, accounting, and tax records we are legally required to retain, and records needed to resolve disputes or prevent fraud. These are retained only for as long as the law requires.
- Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription — cancel that in your Google Play or Apple Account settings.
- The App will continue to work after deletion; a new pseudonymous identifier is created the next time you open it.
